Insurance Insight - February 2024

Back to news

Many farmers have been left counting the cost of the storms which have battered Cumbria this winter. Damage to buildings, vehicles and machinery is at best an inconvenience and at worst an expensive threat to livelihood.

"Our house near Caldbeck escaped the worst of last month’s storms with just the odd tree blown over but I know from speaking to farmers across the county that many had it much worse. From roofs being ripped off to walls collapsing on to machinery, this winter’s storms have left a trail of destruction in their wake.

If you are affected by storm damage and need to make an insurance claim, then get in touch with your broker who will be able to talk you through the process step-by-step.

It’s a good idea to collect as much information as possible to support the claims process. The more detail, the better. Once it’s safe to do so, take plenty of photographs of the damage and make a note of the extent of it. If possible, get an estimated value of the damage.

Call contractors and secure quotations for any repairs rather than wait for insurers to come back to you. That way, you’re at the front of the queue.

Your insurance is there to protect you against unpredictable events such as storms and floods, and it’s our job to deal with your claim quickly and efficiently so you experience minimal disruption."

If you are unsure of the insurance cover you have in place, contact Natalie who will be happy to chat it through with you.
