An unseasonably wet summer forced the cancellation of this year’s county show and committee members are determined to make the 2025 event bigger and better than before.
To help drive awareness and support for the upcoming show, members are hosting the first Northallerton Christmas Tractor Parade and Market which will see decorated farm vehicles drive through High Street.
The event, which is being sponsored by H&H Insurance Brokers, will take place at 6pm on Saturday, December 14, and all tractors will be on display in the Northallerton Auction Mart car park following the parade. The decorated tractors will be judged by an independent adjudicator from the mart, with prizes handed out to the most festive vehicles and will then parade again down the High Street with the prize winners taking the lead.
In addition to the tractor parade, there will be market stalls and some shops staying open late, while children will get the opportunity to visit Santa in his Grotto.
Tricia Lovell, the secretary of the County Show committee, said: “It was a huge disappointment to us all that last year’s show was cancelled, and our goal is to come back with a real bang in 2025.
“We’re really excited about the tractor parade as it will be a great talking point through the town and help local people get into the festive spirit.
“The committee has been amazed by the huge interest in the first event, with thousands saying they will come to watch the parade so it looks set to be a fantastic night for the local community to enjoy and it will help to promote the county show and highlight the need for mental health support for farmers.”
Northallerton Christmas Tractor Parade is being sponsored by H&H Insurance Brokers which has an office base on the town’s Thornfield Business Park. The business offers independent advice and services across all aspects of rural and business insurance.
Corinne Cooper, who heads up the company’s operations in North Yorkshire, will present the prize money for the award-winning tractors at the event.
She said: “H&H Insurance Brokers is delighted to support such an amazing event which is really bringing the town together and will help spread Christmas cheer.
“As a business which specialises in farming and rural business, we know how important country shows are to local communities and farmers and every little bit we can do to support and make sure they continue is something we are very passionate about.”
Northallerton Christmas Tractor Parade is a free event open to all members of the public, with a percentage of any profits to be donated to Mental Health for Farmers as well as promoting the North Yorkshire County Agriculture Show.
