Newly qualified apprentice takes on leadership role at Cumbrian insurance firm

Victoria Twentyman has been promoted to Claims Team Leader at Carlisle-based H&H Insurance Brokers (HHIB), where she now leads the firm’s in-house claims department.

Her promotion marks a significant milestone, coming less than a month after she successfully completed her apprenticeship with HHIB, which operates across the North of England, the Scottish Borders and Wales.

Victoria will work alongside Stuart Torrance who has moved from Claims Manager to the newly created role of Quality Assurance Manager, and be supported by Operations Director Kally Shane in her new role.

Victoria, 19, who lives near Penrith, joined the independent insurance brokers as an apprentice admin assistant straight from school and achieved her professional insurance qualifications in January this year.

Victoria said: “The apprenticeship route was perfect for me because it enabled me to work and study at the same time. Working as part of the team has meant I can gain knowledge and skills on the job which ultimately led to this new role.

“I’m excited about what the future holds and looking forward to working with the team to further develop the department.”

Victoria started her apprenticeship at HHIB in 2020 after leaving Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith following her GCSEs. She is part of the HHIB team based at the firm’s head office in Rosehill and worked across different aspects of the business before joining the claims team in 2022.

HHIB’s Operations Director, Kally Shane, said: “It’s part of our ethos as a firm to provide opportunities for people to pursue rewarding career paths in the financial services industry and Victoria is a great example of that.

“Her hard work, commitment and enthusiasm meant she was the natural choice to lead our in-house claims team and she has the full support of the team behind her.”

H&H Insurance Brokers arranges a broad portfolio of insurance in sectors including agriculture, commercial, tourism and hospitality, and property, and offers a number of specialist products.

As well as its base in Carlisle, it has offices in Durham, Hexham, Newtown St Boswells in the Scottish Borders, Northallerton, and Ruthin and Wrexham in North Wales.
