Back to news

Richard Hunter, Lecturer in Forestry and Arboriculture, Newton Rigg College
Richard is a farmer’s son who during his teens diversified into tree work and gained numerous qualifications.

He has travelled extensively around the UK, working on the tools and as a consultant.  Richard currently teaches forestry at Newton Rigg College, Penrith.

Richard is one of the key speakers for the H&H Safety Farm Zone event; during his talk entitled “The Importance of Formal Safety Training” Richard will advise on the types of training available, the awarding bodies and what is involved in a typical chainsaw training course.  He will highlight how the courses often cover more than the title and chat about how the HSE like formal training.  In addition, he will discuss the benefits such as fault finding and will bring along examples of broken chainsaws and strimmers to demonstrate his talk.
