Safety Tips for Returning to Work

18th May 2020

Here at H&H Safety, working in partnership with IRM Safety, our service is aimed at safeguarding rural business livelihoods by supporting business owners to adhere to current health and safety legislation.  So in line with recent developments, we are offering businesses who are planning to re-open some advice and useful links/tips to ensure that they have put reasonable measures in place to protect employees, suppliers and customers against the risk of COVID-19.

The Government released industry specific guidance, available here and we recommend all businesses review this information and act accordingly.

In summary, to assist being ‘COVID-19 Secure’ each business must do the following:

  • Carry out a risk assessment before they re-open
  • Consult with employees on safety measures in the workplace and the findings of any risk assessment
  • Have suitable cleaning and hygiene procedures in place
  • Take reasonable steps to allow employees to work from home where possible
  • Ensure social distancing measures (minimum of 2 metres) are in place wherever possible. If this cannot be achieved, the business must consider whether that activity is vital to its operation
  • If social distancing cannot be achieved, mitigating measures should be put in place such as increasing cleaning and hand washing, working side-to-side or back-to-back, or putting screens between people working closely together
  • Avoid sharing equipment where possible

H&H Insurance Brokers have issued a Return to Work booklet which contains many useful tips and links; available to download here

In addition, the Health & Safety Executive have compiled a short guide on Working safely through the Coronavirus which we’ve attached here
