H&H Insurance Brokers opens for business at Newtown St Boswells Mart

Farmers in the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland are now able to access insurance advice when they visit Newtown St Boswells Mart.

H&H Insurance Brokers, part of the H&H Group that now operates the mart, is setting up an office at the mart itself to work with new and existing customers.

Hawick-based insurance professional Gemma Lindop has joined H&H Insurance Brokers as Area Development Manager to develop and run the new office, which will be the company’s first in Scotland. H&H Insurance Brokers is one of the UK’s largest independent insurers, specialising in rural and agricultural cover. It provides farm, livestock, commercial insurance and motor policies, as well as personal and high net worth cover.

Gemma, who has worked in commercial and rural insurance and financial advice in the Borders for almost a decade, aims to bring in new business from farmers buying and selling livestock at St Boswells & Wooler Marts.

She said: “I’m thrilled to be joining H&H Insurance Brokers as it expands into the Borders and will be working in an area I know well. I look forward to meeting existing and potential clients and will also be offering insurance reviews not only to customers at the mart but to all commercial business throughout the Borders.”

John Noone, Managing Director for H&H Insurance Brokers, said: “We are delighted to welcome someone of Gemma’s calibre to the business to run our first office in Scotland.”

Philip Pagin, Director of Rural Sales for H&H Insurance Brokers, commented: “H&H Insurance Brokers is expanding and it’s great to have Gemma on-board. She brings with her a mixture of local knowledge, fresh new ideas and enthusiasm for the business.

“Her experience in all areas of farm and commercial insurance will enable her to offer comprehensive and competitive quotes to all businesses in the locality.”

Carlisle-based H&H Insurance Brokers also has offices in County Durham and North Wales. Although the company already serves clients in Scotland, this will be its first dedicated Scottish base. The business prides itself on dealing directly with its customers and does not use call centres.

The location at Newtown St Boswells is ideal for the firm, which offers the unique in-Livestock policy, specifically created to insure breeders of high-value pedigree sheep and cattle. In addition to this they have just launched the Rural Protect policy.

Parent company the H&H Group will also be developing sales at Newtown St Boswells as part of its programme to grow both this mart and Wooler mart in North Northumberland, which became part of the H&H Group earlier in October. The group is now the UK’s biggest livestock marketing operation, with a total of nine marts in Northern England and Southern Scotland.

John Noone concluded: “We have major plans to expand the scope of Newtown St Boswells and Wooler marts, working with our farmer customers to provide an excellent insurance service.

“The opportunity to offer a competitive rural insurance service adds further value to the mart, and we look forward to working with customers old and new from this base.”
